The formula (and why your real hours matter)

Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year). At the standard 2,080 hours (40 × 52), $65,000 is $31.25/hour. But if that salary really costs you 50-hour weeks, the true rate is $25.00 — a 20% pay cut hiding in plain sight. Use the hours field to see what your time actually earns, and to compare a salaried offer against hourly work fairly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert salary to hourly?
Divide the annual salary by your yearly hours: hours per week × weeks per year. $65,000 at 40 hours/week over 52 weeks = 65,000 ÷ 2,080 = $31.25/hour. The calculator does this and shows daily, weekly and monthly equivalents.
What is $65,000 a year per hour?
$31.25/hour at a standard 40-hour week (2,080 hours/year). At 45 hours a week it drops to $27.78 — enter your real hours above to see your true rate.
Should I count vacation weeks?
For a true earned-per-worked-hour figure, set weeks per year to your actual working weeks (e.g. 49 with three weeks off) — your effective hourly rate rises, which is the honest way to compare offers with different vacation policies.
How do I go the other way — hourly to salary?
Multiply: hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year. $25/hour × 40 × 52 = $52,000. You can also just adjust the salary field until the hourly output matches your rate.
